 Betsy Heidenberger/USPTA

Betsy Heidenberger has been involved in the racket industry as a junior competitor, WTA touring professional, tennis instructor, pickleball instructor and competitor, platform tennis professional, club manager, and business entrepreneur. She is an illuminating example of an accomplished Director of Racket Sports.   In 1984, she became a member of the United States Professional Tennis Association (now RSPA) acquiring Professional 1 status. In addition to be a certified tennis professional, Betsy is also a certified pickleball and platform tennis professional. 

Ms. Heidenberger  has recently received the  2024 RSPA Mid-Atlantic Industry Excellence Award. In addition, she has been honored as Maryland Pro of the Year in 2003, 2009, 2014, 2020 and Greater Washington Pro of the Year in 1995.  In 2021, she earned the Level 1 Certificate of Achievement in the USPTA Career Development Program and Betsy has fulfilled the USPTA Professional Development requirements yearly. 

Since 2003, Betsy has been working as the Director of Racket Sports at the CCRA Swim and Racket Club in Chevy Chase, Maryland. During her time at CCRA, Betsy organizes tennis and pickleball programs for adults and juniors i.e. clinics, league play, and social round robins. 

During the winter months, Ms. Heidenberger is a pickleball instructor and event organizer at Dill Dinkers in Maryland, assists at the Chevy Chase Club conducting cardio tennis classes and paddle tennis clinics, and organizes pickleball and tennis trips to Charleston, SC. Domincan Republic and Costa Rica. She is a member of the FitBodies team and she is hired to conduct pickleball programs at various resorts 

Betsy's competed on the junior US circuit and achieved a top 50 U.S. singles ranking in 18-and-under girls. She attended the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill on a tennis scholarship and received a degree in Business Administration. At UNC, Betsy played top singles and doubles positions, was named Regional All-American in 1981 and 1982, and was ranked among the top 25 in AIAW Intercollegiate singles.

Following her collegiate career, Betsy competed on the WTA Professional circuit and achieved a top 200 singles world ranking. She has been ranked No. 11 in the USPTA national singles rankings and is a four-time USPTA Mid-Atlantic Division women's singles champion.  Betsy won the 2006 Mid-Atlantic Women's 45 Clay Court Championships.

She has competed for many years in APTA Platform Sectional and National Tournaments and has achieved a # 5 national doubles ranking. In 2008, Betsy won the National 40's Platform Championships teaming with Jan Shelburne from Chevy Chase. In addition, silver medals had been earned in recent Pickleball tournaments.

From 1984 - 2002, Miss Heidenberger became Club Manager and Tennis Director at the National Cathedral School Tennis Club in Washington, D.C. Due to her efforts to increase membership and tennis activity, Betsy was named the Greater Washington Pro of the Year and the facility was chosen as the USTA District Club of the Year in 2000. Shortly thereafter, the courts were removed and the club was unfortunately terminated. For the next several years, Betsy had started Tennis Adventures, LLC which involved organizing tennis events, leagues, workshops, and trips.

Ms. Heidenberger is presently the Varsity and JV coach for the Academy of Holy Cross High School in Kensington, Maryland.  She has previously coached the varsity teams for Holton Arms High School in Bethesda, Maryland, Bethesda Chevy Chase High School girls' and boys' varsity tennis teams.

Betsy is a Board Member of the Mid-Atlantic Tennis Professionals, Mentor for USPTA, Member of the Tennis, Swim, and Fitness Committees at Columbia Country Club. She is also Board Member for Hamlet Place Townhomes and Hamlet House Condominiums. Over the past years, she has served for the Mid-Atlantic USPTA Division as the Maryland District Representative, American Platform Tennis Association, Montgomery County Tennis Association and has been the USPTA Women's Liaison for the Mid-Atlantic Division. She is a Wilson Tour Ad Staff member and Engage Pickleball Ambassador.

 In previous years, Betsy has been a K-Swiss and Viking Athletics advisory staff member. Betsy has been a member of the Club Med Recruitment Team, representing the Mid-Atlantic Region. She has written articles and tennis tips for Tennis magazine, USPTA's ADDvantage magazine, Racket Sports Industry (RSI), Service Lines. 

She enjoys playing pickleball, tennis and platform tennis and golf in her 'spare' time.

Betsy continues her passion for coaching various racket sports and getting players out on the court in various venues and values all her wonderful clients!
